PROJECT OVERVIEW

The new Honeysuckle ‘Better Cities’ redevelopment of the former working harbour foreshore as a public domain has included the work to design and construct two new bridges over Cottage Creek.
Formerly a simple engineered concrete stormwater drainage channel with covered concrete slab over where the former wharf dock area was located. The new works included the provision of a new traffic bridge and a new pedestrian bridge. The traffic bridge is a clean elegant structure with a new visually interesting balustrade designed to avoid the highway style traffic barriers as this is a highly visible bridge and central to the public domain. The orange lighting at night it a strong visual marker linking to the former industrial working port with the patterning of the vertical balustrades a visually pleasing outcome.

The pedestrian bridge complements the traffic bridge with a similar vertical balustrade but in a light blue wave for that identifies with the creek and harbour water patterns and colours and relates to a pedestrian scale. The structure of the bidge deck is cleverly hidden and the ‘wave’ floats simply and cleanly over the water and the play of lighting and shadows from the balustrades has a fantastic changing patterning.
